Can you take Viagra daily?

How it works, its doses, how long they last and the best time to take the drug

Viagra is the brand name of the medicine, sildenafil citrate, used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED), a common condition that affects men of any age.  Men with this condition are unable to reach or maintain an erection to take part in sexual activity.

It works by relaxing blood vessels and increasing the blood flow to the penis, in order to maintain erections during sexual stimulation.  Viagra comes with serious risks, side effects and problems concerning interactions with other drugs.  It should not be used by those who do not actually have ED or as a recreational drug. The vast majority of men who use Viagra properly, do so without any major physical or psychological issues.

Viagra is available in 3 doses of 25 milligram (mg), 50mg and 100mg.  They all get to work in about 30-60 minutes and last for about 5-8 hours.  The best time to take Viagra is about 1 hour before sexual activity, but you can take the medication any time from 4 hours to 30 minutes before sexual activity.  So there’s no need to rush.

This narrow time frame or window it takes Viagra to last in your body means that your medication needs to be timed with your sexual activity, which doesn’t always work as planned.  You should bear in mind that if that time frame is missed, no more Viagra can be taken for another 24 hours.  Viagra is almost completely eliminated from the body within 8 to 12 hours.

The recommended dose for Viagra is one tablet a day and you should never take more than the recommended dose.  Viagra should not be taken every 24 hours if you do not plan to take part in sexual activity every day.  It is strongly recommended taking a pill only on those days on which you plan to have a sexual intercourse.

For more flexibility, you may consider using daily Cialis, which is effective for up to 24-36 hours.

It is also important to know that the right Viagra dose depends on individual needs, certain health conditions and whether you’re taking other medications.  While most men who are prescribed Viagra should not take it more than once a day, some who take other medications may need to limit themselves to taking Viagra once every two days.  You should talk to your doctor about how often you can take Viagra, and about any health conditions or medications that may prevent the safe use of Viagra.
