Erectile Dysfunction
There are currently three common treatments men use for erectile dysfunction: Cialis, Viagra and Levitra. While the medications work by the same general mechanism, individuals may find that a specific one is more efffective for them or causes less side effects. All three treatments have specific characteristics; this article discusses Viagra and Cialis in detail.
Viagra is the oldest tablet used for erectile dysfunction ans was developed by Pfizer. It contains Sildenafil citrate as the active component. Developed 15 years ago, Pfizer’s patent for Viagra expired in 2013, which led to the development of new products based on Sildenafil. The medicine is taken on an empty stomach and works within an hour, lasting for approximately 6 hours.
Cialis is like Viagra, but the effects of Cialis last much longer. The active ingredient in Cialis is Tadalafil. The effect of tadalafil can last up to 36 hours, which may offer an advantage, however, the side effects last longer, too. Unlike Viagra, Cialis can be taken with meals instead of on an empty stomach.
Brabd-nam Cialis is generally more expensive than brand-name Viagra, but both are very affordable in generic form. Viagra is available as tablets in varying concentrations of 25, 50 and 100mg tablets, while Cialis is available in concentrations of 2.5, 5, 10 and 20mg tablets. A prescription is required for either medication. Both are readily available online.
Viagra works for 82% of the men, while Cialis works for 81% of men. Generally, Viagra works within half an hour of pill ingestion, reaching peak effect in approximately 1 hour. Cialis can work as quickly as 15 minutes but tkes up to 2 hours to reach full effect. While the effects of Viagra are short-term and last only four to six hours, Cialis lasts up to 36 hours.
Cialis works on an empty as well as a full stomach, Viagra works best on an empty stomach. Taking Viagra with food may delay absorption and reduce its effect as well as delay the time before it takes effect. Neither medication should not be taken with grapefruit juice or greasy, fatty foods. Grapefruit can affect the drug’s mechanism of action while fatty foods can delay drug absorption time and effect.
Sildenafil and tadalafil (the active ingredients on Viagra and Cialis) are PDE-5 inhibitors. PDE-5 inhibitors delay the breakdown of a nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is a naturally occuring enzyme that relaxes muscle in the shaft and blood vessels of the penis, allowing t=for increased blood flow which in turn leads to a firmer and more sustained erection.
The PDE-5 inhibitors do not have any psychological or neurological effect. For this reason, they do not play any role in increasing or decreasing sex drive or libido. Therefore, thay may not help an individual who is sexually disinterested.
Side effects of both Viagra and Cialis are similar and may include congestion, indigestion and headaches. They may also cause flushing do to dialtion of vessels in the skin. Some people also complain of experiencing a greenish-blue tint in their vision after intake, although this is not normally seen with Cialis.
Viagra vs Cialis is a very common debate. In the end, as a consumer, both medications should be tested out. Use both tablets at least four times to see which works better for you. It may take four tries for your body to acclimate and respond to the treatment. Many people prefer Viagra because it has been on the market for a longer period of time, and has a proven record of success. Some prefer Cialis because it offers long-lasting effects, and people do not have to rely on planning or timing their sexual activity as much.
